Ramsgate offers scenic coastal routes made up of several distinct walkways. The East Cliff Promenade and West Cliff Promenade dominate the clifftops, joined by the smaller Paragon Promenade on the west side. Below, running parallel to Ramsgate Main Sands, the Marina Esplanade connects with the lower East Cliff Promenade to create a sea level coastal route.

East Cliff Promenade

East Cliff Promenade is a scenic coastal walkway. Spanning both the top of the chalk cliffs and a flat, paved sea-level path, it blends rich Victorian and Regency heritage with dramatic views across the English Channel toward the French coastline.

Promenade from Ramsgate Royal Harbour up Maderia Walk heading east to King George VI Memorial Park or make your way along Marina Esplanade and the lower East Cliff Promenade to the Ramsgate Sea Garden and East Cliff Beach.

There are no public toilets on East Cliff Promenade (the nearest ones are in King George VI Memorial Park and on the Marina Esplanade – see Map).

Accessibility :

East Cliff Promenade is flat wide and paved, making it very accessible for wheelchairs and prams. However, getting down from the clifftop to the lower promenade is more difficult.

Marina Esplanade connects with the lower East Cliff Promenade. It runs parallel to Ramsgate Main Sands.

Paragon Promenade

Paragon Promenade is a historic clifftop terrace and street, it forms the initial section of the West Cliff walkway, seamlessly transitioning into the broader West Cliff Promenade.

The adjacent street, The Paragon, features striking multi-storey Georgian and Victorian townhouses with elegant balconies facing the sea.

  • A townhouse with a Blue Plaque commemorating Charles Darwin, who stayed there.
Accessibility :

While it offers a relatively level outdoor street-level stroll with scenic sea views, full accessibility varies because it borders older, historic architecture.

West Cliff Promenade

West Cliff Promenade is a historic clifftop walkway offering sweeping views of the English Channel and the Royal Harbour. Developed largely in the 1920s, it features local heritage sites and leisure spots.

West Cliff Promenade starts at the end of Paragon Promenade heading west to Courtstairs Park and Pegwell Road.

West Cliff Promenade is flat wide and paved, making it very accessible for wheelchairs and prams. However, getting down from the clifftop to the Western Undercliff is more difficult.

You can also walk down the sloped walkways to the left and right of the Ramsgate Boating Pool Cafe and Bar.

Cycling Restrictions and Routes :

To access Western Undercliff Beach cyclist must walk thier bikes down the sloped walkways and Screaming Alley Steps.
