Ramsgate is home to the only Royal Harbour in the UK – given this status by King George IV because he was so impressed with the hospitality he received in our coastal town, and the same is still true today.
With one of the warmest climates in the UK, there’s a distinct continental feel in the town. Visitors can soak up the cosmopolitan atmosphere in one of the many waterfront bars, cafes and restaurants and enjoy the beautiful architecture and our famous Harbour Arches with stunning views across the marina.
There’s so much to enjoy – relax and explore the eclectic mix of artisan and boutique shops or stroll along our award-winning sandy beaches and shoreline. If you are looking for something more adventurous, why not cycle, canoe or even kitesurf around our stunning chalk cliff coastline, famous the world over.
There’s one thing you can always count on when visiting Ramsgate – and that’s a right Royal welcome!

Pegwell Bay Country Park (Nature Reserve)

The park acts as the entrance to a nature reserve and the rare flora and fauna here make this an area of national importance. This stretch of windswept coastline includes chalk cliffs, mud flats, saltmarsh and sand dunes, and is an important habitat for bird species.

The Beach Roamer (Ramsgate to Margate)
A walk with bays and beaches galore!
Explore the spectacular scenery of the Thanet coastline with this stunning 7 mile trail – taking in the best sands from Ramsgate to Margate, via the chalk stacks of Botany Bay.
At low tide, you can walk the entire route along the sands and catch a bus or train back.

The Contra Trail (Ramsgate to Pegwell)
Boats, birds and a beautiful bay await you on this 6 mile walk, which packs in the nautical and the natural in equal measure.
Bring your binoculars to spot the abundance of wildlife – from basking seals in the bay, to wading birds along our local nature reserve. No zooming-in needed to spot our Viking ship along the way!
