Harbour Street Gate

The cast iron gate on Harbour Street was installed in December 2021 to mark the entrance to the town centre from Ramsgate Royal Harbour. Use the pedestrian entrance to easily stroll from the harbour up into Harbour Street’s shops and eateries.

Gate Design :

Designed by 17-year-old Lily Headley, the winning entrant in a Ramsgate Town Council’s regional design competition. The gate celebrates the town’s maritime heritage. Its intricate metalwork incorporates The West Pier Lighthouse, an RNLI lifeboat, and traditional fishing vessels.

Activities :

The gate is often used as a gathering point for town celebrations and other events.

Vehicle Access :

The gate enforces pedestrianization by restricting vehicle access to the town center between 10:00am and 5:00pm.

If tradespeople require permits to enter the area and remain in the pedestrianised part of town between 10am and 5pm, they can apply by contacting car.parking@thanet.gov.uk.
