Ramsgate Arches leading up to the Westcliff Arcade
The Ramsgate Arches represent a spectacular masterclass in Late-Victorian urban planning. Built to seamlessly connect the town’s Royal Harbour with the expanding West Cliff, this area is celebrated for its multi-tiered architectural brilliance, historic engineering, and lively coastal culture.
Perched immediately above the lower maritime tier, Westcliff Arcade offers some of the most dramatic, panoramic coastal vistas in the region.
At the eastern edge, the upper cliff is connected back down to the harbour floor via Jacob’s Ladder, a famous Grade II-listed, six-flight dogleg staircase.
Though originally intended to be used as maritime warehouses, the Grade II-listed arches have transformed into a thriving, trendy cultural hub.
