The Westcliff Rose Garden

The Westcliff Rose Garden is a beautiful, tranquil, and historic coastal green space situated along the West Cliff Promenade. It’s Ramsgate’s only formal rose garden, it provides a calm, sunny retreat with stunning views out over the sea.

The garden was originally created in 1926 when the Westcliff area was developed as a recreational zone. In June 2026, the garden celebrated its centenary year with a massive community garden party.

The garden features beds of colourful rose bushes, bordered by fragrant lavender. At the heart of the layout is a circular bed filled with dog daisies.

The Westcliff Rose Garden acts as a vital “nectar bar” and urban oasis for coastal biodiversity, attracting rare birds like goldcrests and providing necessary drinking stations for pollinators.

Seating is arranged across the lawns for visitors looking to relax and take in the sea air.

Dog friendly :

Yes. Dogs on leashes are allowed inside the formal rose garden area, making it a popular brief stop for local pet owners walking along the clifftops. The surrounding West Cliff Promenade, is entirely dog-friendly and features numerous dog waste bins to keep the area clean.

Accessibility :

The garden is situated on top of the West Cliff Promenade, which is flat, wide, and paved. The main entrance and internal pathways are designed to be level, allowing smooth movement for wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and prams.
