St Edward’s Presbytery
St Edward’s Presbytery is a Grade I listed Gothic Revival building, designed and built in 1850 by Augustus Welby Pugin. It was built to house the secular priest for Pugin’s adjacent personal masterpiece, The Shrine of St Augustine. Together with The Grange (Pugin’s family home next door), the site represents a complete vision of a mid-19th-century medieval Christian community.
The property is actively managed by The Landmark Trust. It is primarily operated as a historic holiday rental, accommodating up to 4 guests.
Dog policy :
Pet dogs are not allowed inside St Edward’s Presbytery for overnight stays, as it is a Landmark Trust property with a strict no-dogs policy (except for certified assistance dogs).
Accessibility :
St Edward’s Presbytery has limited physical accessibility because it is a historic, unmodernized 19th-century building featuring steep stairs to the upper ground floors.
Tours :
Public exploration is limited to the Heritage Open Days event held annually in mid-September. During these open days, entry to both the Presbytery and The Grange is free of charge.
