East Cliff Promenade and Beach is a peaceful, scenic coastal stretch located just a short walk from Ramsgate Main Sands. It offers a quieter, more natural alternative to the main sands.
The Ramsgate Sea Garden looks out onto this beach.
Accessibility
Accessible at sea level from East Cliff Promenade, a flat, paved sea-level promenade running past the cliffs. There is a gentle concrete slope providing step-free access to the beach.
East Cliff (Winterstoke) Chine is also nearby providing a scenic route to and from the beach, see Map below.
Activities
The East Cliff beach is utilised for the following activities :-

Walking & Cycle Routes :
East Cliff Promenade is on the King Charles lll England Coastal Path. It is also on the Sea it All and Beach Roamer walking routes.
Beach Rules
- Dogs : Welcome off their leads all year round.
- BBQs : Not allowed till after 6:00pm. Coals and rubbish must be fully put out and taken away completely.
- Litter : Leave no trace, bin all rubbish, or take it home; leaving trash next to full bins results in a fine.
- Swimming : There are no restrictive local bylaws specifically banning swimming. However, because this is an unpatrolled beach, swimmers must adhere to standard coastal safety regulations.
- General respect : Keep a safe distance from other beach users and do not spoil their enjoyment.
Eating & Drinking
There are no cafés on the beach. The nearest cafés are in the Ramsgate Main Sands/Marina Esplanade area.
Facilities
There are no facilities on this beach, the nearest toilets are in the Ramsgate Main Sands/Marina Esplanade area (Bathing Station next to Coasters), alternatively you can climb the East Cliff (Winterstoke) Chine and head for the Public Toilets in King George VI Memorial Park, see Map below.
Safety
Unlike Ramsgate Main Sands, this beach has no lifeguard service.
Swimming :
- Cold water shock is a major risk in open sea. Enter slowly and wear a brightly colored tow float so you stay visible.
- Heavy rain can cause short-term pollution risks from storm wastewater overflows. Always check for active local alerts via Swim Finder before entering.
Always be sure to follow RNLI advice and check the weather and tides before you swim.
Never swim alone and keep an eye on children at all times.
Emergency Contact : In a coastal emergency, always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Tides
At low tide, substantial sandy areas and features are exposed, but at high tide the beach is mostly covered. Click here for latest tide information.
