‘Active Ramsgate Week’ returns on 25th May for eight days full of fun-filled activities for families and individuals alike – and all for free! Whether you fancy a guided walk in nature, seal spotting from a kayak, touring our magnificent bays and beaches by boat, or relaxing with a soothing massage – the choice is yours. Ramsgate Town Council is proud to be working with over 20 local businesses to provide a range of options during half term week – a perfect way to keep children entertained and adults activated.

May also happens to be National Walking Month so we will be including a variety of options including local trails that form part of the world’s longest coastal path known as King Charles III England Coast Path, see how many Ramsgate locations you can see in Explore Kent’s promotional video!

Cycling

Back by popular demand, Col’s Kent Bike Tours will be offering local history rickshaw rides around the town as well as bicycle rides for beginners – you need to already know how to ride but Col will give you tips on how to be more confident and enjoy an easy traffic-free route.

For the more adventurous cyclists, there will be a number of free hires from Harbour Bikes available.

Walking

If walking is more your kind of thing, then you should definitely consider a guided nature walk to Pegwell with Keith Ross. Keith is a fountain of knowledge on the flora and fauna of the area and don’t forget to bring your binoculars if you have them (or borrow one of Keith’s extra pairs).

Perhaps you’d prefer to focus on getting your whole body in better condition? Then try Nordic Walking with Denise Hill who will show you how this special technique of walking with poles provides an all-round work-out, plus you get to enjoy the outdoors while you’re at it. This year Denise will also be offering a special heritage focused Nordic Walk for those who fancy mixing their love of history with keeping fit.

At a more leisurely pace you can join a story-led stroll through historic streets, past beautiful architecture and our Royal Harbour, including the new installation of 338 Standing with Giants silhouettes with your guide Ant Wright on a Ramsgate Walking Tour.

Girl Hike, a feminist collective that aims to make hiking more joyful for women, will be part of ‘Active Ramsgate Week’ for the first time, leading a women+ hike from Ramsgate to Broadstairs.

Children & Families

For children and families, we’ll have vouchers for funfair rides at Frankie’s on the Beach right on Ramsgate’s Main Sands.

If you fancy something more calming, then why not try family beach yoga with Charlotte Ellis (who will also be offering some adult sessions too)?

A 15-minute walk from the beach will bring you to beautiful Ellington Park where you’ll find the fabulous This Bean Spins and her Circus Skills show, featuring giant bubbles and hula hoops.

Fancy exploring on the beach and rock pools? Then Thanet Coast Project have two excellent options for you – a Seashore Safari on Western Undercliff or a Scavenger Hunt with Beach Art on the Main Sands.

At Warre Recreation Ground we’ll be offering activities, mainly aimed at children but with some for adults too. We will have skateboarding with Scorcha Skate School and will be debuting Disc Golf in Thanet, this sport has been growing in popularity and is easy to learn and lots of fun to play. Come and give it a try!

There will also be sessions for Pickleball in Spencer Square.

Watersports & Boat Tours

For watersports fans we’ll be programming Stand Up Paddle board sessions with Haywood Sports, Power-kite tasters with Kite Pirates, seal watching tours with Canoe Wild and a boat tour of the bays and beaches with Go2Sea.

Rest & Relaxation

And after all that activity, you’ll be wanting some rest and relaxation. Join practitioner Eleanor Yankah and her Floating Frequencies multi-instrumental sound bath and be enveloped in soothing sound waves.

We have also booked massages with The Recovery Well in Ramsgate’s town centre. Whether it’s chilling out to sound or hands-on therapy, we’ve got you covered.
