Dance Comes to Thanet’s Streets with Matthew Bourne’s Doorstep Duets
World-renowned dance company New Adventures, led by visionary choreographer Matthew Bourne, is bringing its much-loved Doorstep Duets back to Thanet this July — with a vibrant series of free, outdoor performances for the whole community.
Ramsgate will come alive with Doorstep Duets on Saturday 19th July, featuring three energetic performances lasting twenty minutes:
- 12pm – Ellington Park
- 2pm – Charlotte Court
- 4pm – East Cliff Bandstand
Now in its fourth year, Doorstep Duets brings world-class dance directly to local communities — in parks, public spaces, and neighbourhood streets. A collaboration between New Adventures and Farnham Maltings, the project aims to make dance more accessible, joyful, and inclusive, particularly for those who might not usually attend theatre performances.
This year’s performance is titled Hum, choreographed by long-time New Adventures artist Anjali Mehra, with original music by Grammy-nominated composer Luke Brady. Inspired by the tiny yet powerful hummingbird, Hum explores how small acts of kindness can spark connection and nurture community — a heartfelt message told through expressive movement and sound.
Performing in Hum are a talented cast of New Adventures dancers: Anna Maria de Freitas, Luke Murphy, Holly Saw, Molly Shaw-Downie, Xavier Andriambolanoro Sotiya, and Mami Tomotani.
Anjali Mehra shares:
“Bringing dance to people who wouldn’t normally experience theatre is hugely important. Doorstep Duets is doing incredible things for many communities, and I hope new audiences join us to discover the joy of live dance.”
This celebration of creativity and connection is made possible thanks to support from Arts Council England and local partners, including ARK Cliftonville and Future Foundry.
No tickets, no barriers — just pure performance magic on your doorstep.
