Ramsgate Festival of Sound 21st-30th July

In it’s ninth year, Ramsgate Festival kicks off with a series of talks on our rich maritime and wartime history starting with The Roosvijk 1740 Project – a ship that was wrecked on the Goodwin Sands nearly 300 years ago and was finally excavated last year. To find out what they found out head on up to The Falstaff at 3pm on 23rd July! Each day during the week, there are a series of different talks being held at the Falstaff Hotel, Addington Street and Sailor’s Church, Military Road.

Art exhibitions are also on throughout the town at Nice Things, Harbour Street and Something Fishy, Military Road along with poetry, cabaret and lots of live music! The weekend is dedicated to art and sound with some amazing experiences for all ages; from the Pirate Adventure on Ramsgate Main Sands and the Enchanted Forest Adventure at King George VI Park for the children to the sublime Sabina Desir and Doug Sides Trio who will be performing just around the corner at the Italianate Greenhouse (Saturday 28th July) for the grown ups.

There will be sound installations all around town over the weekend including Requiem for Crossbones which will be installed on Albion Place gardens over the weekend, a truly moving (it is motion sensitive!) experience. ST Cervia will come alive over the weekend and is another unique experience not to be missed along with Blink (Saturday, 9pm at Ramsagte Tunnels entrance), Ramsgate Rising, Harbour Hoo-ha, Sounds of Wartime, Blair Hollands (Vinyl Head), Gagarin, Tensheds, Things with Words an Music and a Sonic Sound Trail plus loads more.

There’s so much going on, you need to get yourself a programme to make the most of the event (available all over town, VIC and most cafes/bars/hotels) or you can click on this link to see all the line ups and don’t forget to support the Community Summer Parade that starts at 5pm on Sunday 29th from Argos – everything is made from recycled plastic or litter and is all about getting the message across that ‘Plastic is not fantastic!’. If you want to join in the parade, head along to Arts in Ramsgate in Harbour Street to collect something beautiful created out of rubbish and meet us at the top of the pedestrianised High Street.
