Spring into Easter

Daffodils are rearing their lovely heads and Spring takes a leap forward this weekend when we lose an hour so we can all look forward to some balmy evenings (here’s hoping anyway!)

Our event season is already well under way with the fantastic Ramsgate International Film & TV Festival last weekend which, in spite of the snowy weather, was a roaring success with a great turnout. People travelled from all over Europe and even across the bigger pond from the USA to enjoy the delights of short and feature films, talks and gala events. Well done to the small team who work tirelessly to make this up and coming event such a success.

For the Easter Bank Holiday, there is plenty to do in Ramsgate and beyond. On Easter Sunday, we will be hosting an all day outdoor (cross your fingers please!) event which will include 25 hand crafted and hand made local produce at Harbour Parade, a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Easter Egg hunt, facepainting, Easter bunny bonnet making, Joey the entertainer will be on hand to make animal shaped balloons and we will be parading through the town for our Alice in Wonderland themed parade at 2pm (from Argos in the High Street). It would be great if people can come down and support us throughout the day and line the streets to cheer us on when we meander through the town, finishing up at the bottom of Harbour Parade.

Ramsgate Tunnels are launching their new Home Front Museum and Tunnel Teas Cafe from Good Friday (30th March) along with new opening hours which extend to 7 days a week! If you haven’t been yet, do check these fascinating tunnels out as they are a unique part of our history (and have delicious cake!).

At the Hurricane and Spitfire Museum, they are launching their Spitfire Simulator in April which I am sure will be a great success and also solve those ‘What do I get them for their birthday?’ questions!

The following weekend on the 7th of April we have our FREE youth taster sessions of Kitesurfing for anyone aged between 11 and 18 which you can sign up for here; which will be hosted by local Kitesurfing School, Kite Pirates.

This free event is part of a package Ramsgate Town Council have secured to host the British Kitesurfing Championships Final Leg in August (18th and 19th) which promises to be a spectacular event especially if the wind joins us for the party! The best UK kitesurfers will be judged over the weekend and be crowned after the event ends on Sunday afternoon.

There are plenty of other events and activities planned over the coming months and if you can get hold of a copy of the new Ramsgate Rocks booklet or the new edition of the Isle magazine (out this weekend). Click on the above links to access both downloadable copies if you can’t get your hands on a hard copy which I hope will help you plan your next trip to Ramsgate.

Do have a look round our Visit Ramsgate website whilst you’re here as I am sure it will give you some inspiration for your visit! There is still a few months left for you to take advantage of our Active8 offers as well so check out what’s on offer and try something new this Spring!
Enjoy the ride!
