Ramsgate's 2nd International Film & TV Festival starts this Thursday, 15th March with a four day programme of local and international film screenings, youth event, talks, networking and award ceremony! This Saturday, 24th, in partnership with Screen South, we are hosting and promoting our new WWI trail with a guided tour at midday (meet resident expert, Bob Pryor at Sailor's Church) and 1pm (Rosemary Kirk, Ramsgate Society tour guide) . The tour will take around 60-90 minutes to complete. You can take part in the guided tour (50 spaces available, please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org to book a space) or collect the maps from Maritime Museum or Visitor Information Centre to do the trail yourself (there are 3 poppies to find en route which we ask you to take a selfie of). Wildlife filmmaker Richard Taylor-Jones has been filming the huge influx of Cormorants we have seen this Winter off the Ramsgate coast. Richard described it as a "British wildlife spectacle" and "something he has never seen in 20 years of filming wildlife". Over one thousand birds can be seen flying in and out off Pegwell Bay in the morning and evening. The short film was shown on BBC Countryfile on Sunday 11th Feb. The Ramsgate Kingfishers are set to feature on BBC Winterwatch this year. These birds are very territorial and some of the footage shown will be of 2 Kingfishers fighting in the Harbour filmed by local wildlife filmmaker Keith Ross (@ramsgatebirds). BBC Springwatch cameraman Richard Taylor-Jones joined Keith and spent days filming the birds to see how they cope with Winter in the harbour. The film will also feature a bird that took up residence in a very surprising location away from the harbour. Winterwatch begins on BBC2 Monday the 29th of January and runs for 4 nights.
